The Revenue Litigation Bureau represents the interests of the State in litigation involving the civil enforcement of taxes administered by the Department of Revenue. The Bureau also represents the Department in bankruptcy cases around the country.
In addition, the Bureau is responsible for the collection of debts owed a variety of other State agencies. The latter cases include property damage and personal injury matters arising from damage to state property and injuries to state employees, as well as various fines, penalties and contractual liabilities.
Finally, the Bureau supervises the assessment and collection of Illinois Estate Taxes, and is responsible for the auditing of all Illinois estate tax returns required to be filed with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.
The position available in the Bureau handles everything from small collection cases to major litigation involving challenges by large corporate taxpayers to tax assessments issued by the Department involving tens of millions of dollars.
We are primarily interested in individuals with at least three years of experience in state and federal court litigation. Experience in state and local tax, tort litigation, general collection work, probate, bankruptcy, and supplementary citation proceedings preferable.
Salary: Salary starts at $70,000. Candidates must be licensed by the State of Illinois at the time of application.
