Title: Assistant Attorney General

Division: Public Access and Opinions

Location: FOIA Office - Springfield or Chicago

The Public Access and Opinions Division seeks attorneys with sound judgment and excellent research and writing skills to serve as an additional FOIA Officer within the Office of the Attorney General. The FOIA Officer is responsible for receiving, assessing, and responding to requests for records in the possession of the Office of the Attorney General that are made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. The FOIA Officer works with the appropriate division, bureau, or personnel within the Office of the Attorney General to locate responsive records. In addition, prior to their release, the FOIA Officer reviews and redacts records, as appropriate. The FOIA Officer will work with the Attorney General's current FOIA Officer and FOIA staff to respond to requests in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act and will handle requests with the appropriate skill and care that ensures compliance with Illinois law.

Candidates must be licensed to practice law by the State of Illinois at the time of application. Ideal candidates should have two or more years of legal experience, preferably involving the Freedom of Information Act. The ability to work under pressure and prioritize a caseload effectively in order to meet statutory compliance deadlines is essential.

Salary: Salaries start at $71,400.
