ATTORNEY GENERAL RAOUL ISSUES STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF KNOX COUNTY DEPUTY

Chicago  — Attorney General Kwame Raoul today issued a statement following the death of Knox County Sheriff Deputy Nicholas D. Weist, who died on Friday from injuries he sustained while on duty in Henry County.

“Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholas D. Weist died Friday morning in the line of duty, while carrying out his responsibility to protect the residents of Knox County, when he was struck by a fleeing motorist in nearby Henry County. I offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

“It is in moments like these we are reminded of the selfless acts of sacrifice performed every day by members of law enforcement. These courageous men and women go to work in the service of others, without a guarantee that they will return home safely to their loved ones.

“As the investigation continues into this tragic incident, may we all hold the members of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the family of this fallen officer in our thoughts and prayers.”
